Honoring Nobel Laureate North’s legacy

Some of the world’s leading social scientists will be on campus this week as WUSTL hosts an academic conference Nov. 4-6 honoring the legacy of Nobel Laureate Douglass C. North, PhD. North, who turns 90 Friday, Nov. 5, is the Spencer T. Olin Professor in Arts & Sciences and co-recipient of the 1993 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. FULL STORY

Urban pollution increases Parkinson’s risk

High levels of manganese and copper pollution in urban areas are linked to increased risk of Parkinson’s disease, according to a large-scale analysis of urban pollution and Parkinson’s incidence in the United States by researchers at the School of Medicine. FULL STORY

Madcap mayhem at Edison this weekend

It’s a madcap weekend of comic mayhem as Chicago sensations 500 Clown target a pair of literary classics with in-your-face improv, commedia dell’arte and physical theater. On Friday, Nov. 5, the company will descend upon Edison Theatre with 500 Clown Macbeth followed on Saturday, Nov. 6, by 500 Clown Frankenstein. FULL STORY

Health open enrollment period all this month

The annual health open enrollment period for the health/dental or dental-only plans, the health- and child-care flex spending plans, the Health Savings Account and the Retirement Medical Savings Account is under way. Enrollments and changes to these plans made during the open enrollment period Nov. 1-30 will be effective Jan. 1, 2011, for calendar year 2011. FULL STORY

WUSTL Police help ‘warm up’ St. Louis

The WUSTL Police Department is teaming up with the Kurt Warner First Things First Foundation and Operation Food Search for the 10th annual Warners’ Warm-up winter-coat drive. Through Nov. 14, the WUSTL police station will serve as a drop-off location for students, faculty, staff and others to donate new or gently used winter coats.  FULL STORY
